The Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI) has won the 2026 International Society for Stem Cell Application (ISSCA) Global Award in the Agribusiness and Market System category for its Parabolic-Shaped Solar Dryer (PSSD).
The institute’s spokesperson, Moshood Akintola, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
Akintola said the award was presented to NSPRI in New Delhi, India, during the 2026 Dryland Congress.
NAN reports that the ISSCA Awards are a flagship initiative of ISSCA and its partners aimed at identifying, validating and celebrating scalable agricultural technologies and innovations from across the Global South.
The 2026 awards seek to promote technology transfer through South-South cooperation and establish a verified repository of agricultural solutions, among other objectives.
Akintola quoted NSPRI Executive Director, Prof. Lateef Sanni, as describing the award as global recognition of the institute’s efforts to develop innovations that address post-harvest challenges confronting farmers and other agricultural value-chain actors.
Sanni said the award recognised the institute’s outstanding contributions to agricultural development.
“The PSSD, which offers a practical approach to post-harvest management, helps farmers and value-chain actors reduce losses while improving the quality and shelf life of agricultural products.
“The ISSCA Awards are run by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) Centre of Excellence for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture.
“I laud the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which has provided a platform, through its Sustainable Food Security Project, for the promotion of solar-drying technologies to improve food processing across various agro-ecological zones nationwide,” he said.
