Kwara State has officially taken ownership of a 132-unit National Housing Programme estate in Ogbondoroko, Asa Local Government Area, following full payment to the Federal Government.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq received the documents and keys to the estate on Thursday, marking the formal transfer of ownership from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to the state government.

“We are here this afternoon to receive the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Housing Scheme, which has been fully bought and acquired by the Kwara State Government,” the governor said.

Represented by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, AbdulRazaq noted that the acquisition forms part of efforts to reduce the housing deficit and expand access to affordable homes across the state.

He said the estate comprises 132 housing units of varying types, including one-, two-, and three-bedroom detached and semi-detached houses.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, said the National Housing Programme was designed to bridge the country’s housing gap and commended the Kwara State Government for acquiring the units for public benefit.

Represented by the Director of Public Buildings and Housing in the ministry, Architect Musa Abdullahi, the minister disclosed that the Federal Government is set to commence another housing project in the state.

“We will soon begin construction of a Renewed Housing Estate in Kwara State. The contract has been awarded, and we are concluding formalities to commence work,” he said, expressing optimism about continued collaboration with the state government.

Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, described the handover as more than a transfer of assets, noting that it reflects effective intergovernmental collaboration and a shared commitment to improving citizens’ welfare.

Represented by his Special Assistant, Dr. Toyin Nasamu, Belgore praised the state government’s proactive approach to expanding housing access and integrating the estate into its broader urban development plan.

He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure and economic initiatives by the AbdulRazaq administration, including the revitalisation of the Kwara Hotel and the construction of the Kwara State International Conference Centre, describing them as indicators of growing investment and development in the state.
