The zone covers Edo, Delta, and Anambra states.

His appointment was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Acting Zonal Public Education Officer, Mercy Ebomwonyi.

According to the statement, Mathew officially took over leadership of the zone on April 7, succeeding Assistant Corps Marshal Joseph Toby, who retired from the corps on April 4.

Ebomwonyi noted that the new ZCO brings extensive experience to the role, having served in multiple capacities within the FRSC, including Unit Head of Operations, Unit Commander, Sector Head of Operations, Head of Administration and Human Resources, Head of Plants, and Sector Commander.

His postings have spanned several states, including Rivers, Oyo, Sokoto, Jigawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Lagos.

She expressed confidence that Mathew’s wealth of experience would strengthen coordination of the corps’ operations across the three states under Zone 5.

In his remarks, Mathew called on residents of Edo, Delta, and Anambra, as well as officers and personnel of the corps, to collaborate in ensuring safer highways for all road users.

Established in 1988, the FRSC is Nigeria’s lead agency responsible for road safety administration and traffic management.
