Ex-NBA President, Paul Usoro Appointed Chairman Access Bank

Access Bank Plc has appointed the former president of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Paul Usoro SAN as it’s Board Chairman.

Usoro a boardroom veteran, has been on the Board of Access Bank Plc, and chairs the Board’s Technical Committee on Retail Expansion and its Human Resources and Sustainability Committee. 

He also served as a member of 

Access Bank’s Board’s Audit, Risk Management, and Credit Committees.  

He is the Chairman of Dakkada Luxury Estate Limited, a wholly owned enterprise 

of Akwa Ibom State Government. 

Up to January 2023, Paul served as a

director of PZ Cussons Plc and has at various times served on the Boards of Airtel Networks Limited, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (where he was part of the pioneer directors of the company), Premium Pensions Limited (where he served as an Independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman of its Audit Committee), Marina Securities Limited (where he served as 

Chairman) and CR Services (Credit Bureau) Plc (representing the interest of Zenith Bank Plc), to mention but a few. 

Mr Usoro served as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) between 2018 and 2020 and was, by virtue of his office also a member 

of the Body of Benchers, Council of Legal Education (where he served briefly 

as Council Chairman), National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.

After his tenure as the President of the 

Bar, he served for another 2 (two) years as a member of the NJC and remains 

a Bencher till date. 

Besides, Paul served as a Council Member of the International Bar Association (IBA) during his tenure as the President of the NBA and was appointed thereafter by the IBA to its Rule of Law Forum where he serves as an executive 

council member and had served as the Forum’s Secretary. He currently serves 

as the Forum’s African Liaison Officer as well as an executive council member.

He was also a Member of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Autonomy of State Legislature and State Judiciary, a Committee that was established by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Paul Usoro, SAN FCIArb obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree (with Honours) in 1981 from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo 

University), Nigeria and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1982.

 In 1985, Paul founded Paul Usoro & Co (PUC) in Kaduna, a full-service Nigerian law firm, now headquartered in Lagos with branches in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital and Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria

Paul is married to Mfon Ekong Usoro, an accomplished lawyer and individual in her own right who served, at various times, as the pioneer 

Director General of the National Maritime Administration and Safety Agency 

and the Secretary General of the Memorandum of Understanding on Port  State Control for West and Central African Region (“Abuja MOU”), an intergovernmental agency that oversees port state control in the West and Central 

African Regions with affiliations to the International Maritime Organisation.

Their union has produced accomplished children.
