He observed that although many officers enlist in the police force, only a few successfully complete their careers due to occupational hazards, dismissals, or premature exits.

“These 15 officers are among the select few who have completed this journey honourably,” he said.

“They have served this nation diligently for 35 years and retired successfully. That, in itself, is worth celebrating.”

He added that while the officers are retiring from active duty, their wealth of experience remains invaluable to the command and the broader policing community.

Akinbisehin also expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, for his leadership and support, including the deployment of the Police Band to enliven the ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, SP Julius Ohimai reflected on the evolution of the police institution, describing it as a reflection of the nation’s socio-political realities.

He called for sustained investment in forensic infrastructure and modern policing tools, stressing that effective law enforcement requires substantial funding and institutional support.

Retired CSP Julius Odion, a former Police Mobile Force commander, recounted his operational experiences in the North-East and urged younger officers to regard the uniform as both a privilege and a sacred responsibility.

Similarly, CSP Charles Akinrosoye, former Officer-in-Charge of the Legal Unit, underscored the importance of integrity and continuous legal education in investigations and courtroom practice.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by DSP James Akintoye, who expressed gratitude for surviving the physical risks of policing, including encounters with armed robbery and coordinated attacks, throughout his three-decade career.
