May Yul-Edochie, popularly known as Queen May and estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has issued a cease-and-desist notice demanding a total of N1.5 billion in damages from her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, and a United States-based woman, Yinka Omolola Theisen, over alleged cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and defamation.
In separate letters issued through her legal representatives, Graylaw Partners, Queen May accused Ugwuonye and Theisen of publishing damaging content about her on social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook. She alleged that the publications had injured her reputation and business interests.
Her lawyers demanded that both parties immediately stop making further posts, withdraw the existing publications, and issue public apologies and retractions across all the platforms where the alleged defamatory statements were made.
Specifically, Queen May is seeking N1 billion in compensation from Ugwuonye and N500 million from Theisen.
The notice to Ugwuonye went further, questioning his past conduct as her legal adviser. Her lawyers alleged that he had acted unprofessionally, mishandling confidential information entrusted to him during their client–lawyer relationship, and later using it in ways that undermined her. They described his conduct as a breach of trust and professional ethics, which aggravated the harm done to their client.
The letter to Theisen similarly accused her of amplifying and encouraging the spread of harmful narratives about Queen May online, thereby worsening the reputational damage.
Both letters gave a 48-hour deadline for compliance, warning that failure to act would compel Queen May to initiate civil and criminal proceedings.
“The publications complained of are malicious, injurious, and unacceptable. Our client has suffered severe and irreparable harm as a result, and she will not stand by and allow this misconduct to continue,” the lawyers stated.
They added that the legal steps being taken were not only to seek redress but also to safeguard her rights, privacy, and professional standing going forward.
