Maxitrust Microfinance Bank Limited, in collaboration with the National Association of Microfinance Banks (NAMB) and Water.org, has launched a flagship funding initiative known as MAXI-WASH, designed to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities across Nigeria.

Speaking during the launch, Alhaji Idris Abdullahi, Managing Director of Maxitrust MfB, described the initiative as a demonstration of the bank’s commitment to health, dignity, and sustainable living.

He explained that MAXI-WASH is not just a loan product but a financial innovation aimed at enabling households, schools, and communities to build modern toilets, water storage systems, and hand-washing facilities—directly supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

“Through this product, we are empowering families and communities to access clean water and improved sanitation,” Abdullahi said. “Our partnership with Water.org and NAMB underscores the power of collaboration in addressing real human needs.”

The Maxitrust chief noted that by linking access to finance with access to safe water and sanitation, the bank was helping to build healthier communities and foster a more productive environment.

Abdullahi expressed appreciation to the bank’s Board Chairman, Mr. Ugo Ejim, and the board members for their visionary leadership, while commending Water.org and NAMB for their technical and institutional support.

He also encouraged customers to take advantage of the MAXI-WASH facility as a tool for transforming lives, homes, and businesses.

In his remarks, Board Chairman Ugo Ejim described the launch as a demonstration of how finance could be deployed as a tool for social transformation.

“At Maxitrust, our board remains committed to products and partnerships that create real impact in people’s lives. MAXI-WASH reflects our strategic vision of combining innovation, inclusion, and community development,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr. Mohammed Idris, National Treasurer of NAMB, lauded the collaboration between Maxitrust MfB and Water.org as a timely intervention that could strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare and hygiene systems.

He said the initiative was a step in the right direction toward ending open defecation, improving access to safe water, and promoting healthy living.

Similarly, Mr. Gilbert Okopon, Senior Partnership Account Officer at Water.org, commended Maxitrust’s commitment to removing financial barriers to clean water access.

“Access to safe water and hygiene is not a luxury but a right. Together, we are building a future where safe water and sanitation are within everyone’s reach,” he said.
