The Nigerian Army has redeployed 56 major-generals and 11 brigadier-generals in a wide-ranging reorganization across its formations and units.
According to an internal memo dated October 30, 2025, and signed by E. L. Okoro, the Military Secretary (Army), the affected officers are to assume their new posts on November 3, 2025.
Only four major-generals — P.A.O. Okoye, Y. Yahaya, I. Otu, and S. Nuhu — retained their current locations but were assigned new designations.
“It is the responsibility of all formation and unit commanders whose officers are affected by this posting to implement accordingly,” the memo stated.
“Commanders who fail to release or receive posted officers as directed will be sanctioned.”
The redeployment is part of efforts to strengthen command efficiency and align the army’s leadership structure with current security and operational demands.
The development follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent overhaul of the Armed Forces, which saw new service chiefs appointed across the military.
Major-General Waidi Shaibu was named Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding Lieutenant-General Olufemi Oluyede, who was promoted.
Air Vice-Marshal Sunday Aneke became Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral Idi Abbas was appointed Chief of Naval Staff.
The shake-up comes amid ongoing efforts to professionalize the military hierarchy and dispel rumours of internal discontent following an alleged coup plot, which the authorities have denied.
A total of 67 senior officers were affected by the new postings across the army’s formations nationwide.
