Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted 18 passengers traveling on an Abuja-bound ABC Transport bus in Kogi State.
Retired Commodore Jerry Omodara, Security Adviser to the Governor of Kogi, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Thursday.
He stated that the attack occurred on Sunday, March 16, when the bus, en route from the South East to Abuja, was hijacked by suspected kidnappers at Oloma in Ofu Local Government Area, near the Enugu State border.
Omodara assured the public that a joint security team comprising the military, police, DSS, NSCDC, and local vigilantes is actively tracking the kidnappers to rescue the victims. He revealed that Kogi’s security chiefs convened twice on Wednesday to strategize the rescue operation.
“This strong collaboration, along with valuable intelligence from the local community, is crucial to apprehending the kidnappers and securing the victims’ release,” Omodara said.
He emphasized that Kogi has witnessed a significant decline in criminal activities due to improved cooperation between security agencies and local residents.
Omodara also reassured the families of the abducted passengers, vowing that every effort is being made to ensure their safe return.
“We remain committed to making Kogi a safe place for all—both residents and visitors,” he added.
