Fidelity Bank Plc has expanded its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, to Anambra State, where it provided essential food supplies to more than 2,000 vulnerable residents in Awka, the state capital.

The two-day outreach, held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Catholic Diocese of Awka, and Emmaus House, Anglican Diocese of Awka, focused on supporting widows, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups in the community.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Nosa Orumwense, Regional Bank Head, Awka, reaffirmed Fidelity Bank’s dedication to fighting hunger and improving community welfare.

“The Fidelity Food Bank was launched as part of our commitment to the well-being of our host communities. We are delighted to bring this initiative to Anambra State in collaboration with our partners, ensuring the most vulnerable receive support during these difficult times,” Orumwense said.

The intervention was warmly received by religious leaders and community stakeholders. Rev. Father Levi Ukor, Director of the Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), Catholic Diocese of Awka, praised the partnership, noting that tackling hunger requires collaboration.

“Hunger remains a pressing issue for many households. Fidelity Bank’s decision to provide food support to such a large number of vulnerable people shows genuine compassion and social responsibility,” Ukor said.

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, described food as a basic necessity of life and urged other corporate organizations to emulate Fidelity Bank.

Similarly, the Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Chinedu Okafor, applauded the initiative, stressing that it came at a critical time for residents facing tough economic conditions.

Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude. Mrs. Adanma Mbah, one of the recipients, said:

“The foodstuff will go a long way in supporting my family. This came at the perfect time. Thank you, Fidelity Bank.”

Launched in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has distributed over 250,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, reaching more than 300 communities nationwide.

Fidelity Bank, one of Nigeria’s leading commercial banks serving over 9.1 million customers, continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving lives through CSR initiatives, while earning both local and international recognition for excellence in digital transformation, SME banking, and innovative financial services.
