A 51-year-old man, Lawal Johnson, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged cyberbullying against Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, a prominent chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The defendant appeared before Justice Deinde Dipeolu on a two-count charge filed by operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex, Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday.
The case is marked FHC/L/724c/2025.
According to the prosecutor, Barrister S. A. Adebesin, the offences occurred between July and August 2025 in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Johnson allegedly used his social media accounts, linked to his phone number 07069981199, to send voice and video messages containing insulting and disparaging remarks against MC Oluomo.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant’s actions intentionally subjected MC Oluomo to ridicule, emotional and psychological abuse, and disparagement, contrary to Section 24(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act 2015, as amended in 2024, and Section 14(1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act 2015.
Johnson pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following his plea, the prosecutor requested that a trial date be set.
The defendant’s lawyer informed the court that a bail application had been filed and served on the prosecution.
The prosecutor confirmed receipt and stated he had no objection to the bail request.
Justice Dipeolu subsequently granted bail, set at N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
