Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has been released from prison in the United Kingdom and is now back in Nigeria.
Beatrice and her husband were sentenced to prison last year for attempting to harvest the organ of a young Nigerian boy in order to treat their daughter, Sophia. The boy had been lured from his hawking business in Lagos.
According to PM News, Beatrice returned to Nigeria on Tuesday. She, her husband Ike, and Dr. Obinna Obeta were all convicted for their roles in the organ trafficking scheme, with Ike receiving a 10-year sentence and Beatrice a 6-year sentence, despite citing poor health in court.
Her return has been met with celebrations in Abuja , and Enugu State, where many residents are hopeful for the speedy return of her husband.
