Sprezzatura Publishing Ltd. has called for greater youth participation in mandatory military service as a means of fostering patriotism, discipline and a stronger sense of national responsibility.
The Managing Director of the company, Dr. Abubakar Sani, made the appeal in Abuja while announcing plans to unveil a new book titled Serving the Nation: Exploring Mandatory Military Service for Nigerian Youths.
Sani said the event, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, February 20, at 3Js Hotel, Abuja, will transcend a conventional book launch.
He described it as a platform designed to stimulate robust national discourse on youth engagement and nation-building.
According to him, the presentation is intended to ignite fresh conversations around patriotism, unity, discipline and the broader civic responsibilities of young Nigerians.
“This book does not impose a position on Nigerians.
Rather, it encourages critical reflection on patriotism, discipline, unity and the broader responsibilities of young people in nation-building,” Sani said.
“We want citizens to carefully examine the possible social, economic and political implications of such a policy.”
He noted that Nigeria’s youthful population remains one of its greatest assets and stressed that any discussion on compulsory military service must be inclusive, balanced and forward-looking.
A key highlight of the event will be a panel discussion featuring contributors and stakeholders, aimed at generating practical recommendations on strengthening national service frameworks and expanding youth participation.
Observers say the presentation is expected to stimulate meaningful dialogue on citizenship, shared responsibility and innovative approaches to national cohesion, as conversations around structured national service continue to gather momentum.
