Justice Adamu Bello of the Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the trial of a dismissed officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Polycarp Andrew, to December 11, 2025, for hearing.

At Wednesday’s proceedings, prosecution counsel H. M. Mohammed informed the court of his readiness to call two witnesses—an EFCC officer and an official of Opay Bank.

However, defence counsel, D. B. Kwajafa, announced that he was not ready to proceed, citing the need for adequate time to prepare his client’s defence. He told the court that he had only recently been served with a flash drive containing a video recording of the defendant’s extra-judicial statement and needed time to review it.

Mohammed opposed the request for adjournment, arguing that the flash drive was not immediately relevant to the current stage of proceedings.

After hearing both sides, Justice Bello granted the adjournment and fixed December 11 for continuation of the trial.

Andrew was arraigned on May 5 on a six-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust. He pleaded not guilty to all counts.

The EFCC alleged that Andrew, while serving as exhibit keeper at the Commission’s Kaduna Zonal Directorate, stole over N22 million from exhibits in his custody.

He was later arrested in Taraba State after allegedly absconding when internal investigations linked him to the missing funds.

The offences are punishable under the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
