Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has flagged off the construction of the 15.15-kilometre Ojoku–Ilemona road in Oyun Local Government Area, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to open up communities, boost commerce, and ease transportation in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Governor said his administration has delivered over 100 kilometres of road projects in Kwara South alone, in addition to major investments in health, education, water, and social protection. He added that about 109 kilometres of additional road projects — including those under RAAMP — are either under construction or about to be awarded.

AbdulRazaq urged residents to protect and take ownership of public infrastructure, noting that it would help sustain development.

The flag-off coincided with the joint inspection of the ongoing 42.6-kilometre Eiyenkorin–Afon–Ojoku–Offa Road by the Governor, Minister of Works David Umahi, and a delegation from BUA Group — the contractor handling the project. The road links Kwara Central to Kwara South and Osun State in under 30 minutes.

Umahi and AbdulRazaq commended the quality of work, with the Minister stating that the concrete road should last between 50 and 100 years.

The Governor also reminded the Minister of the importance of the long-awaited dualisation of the Ilorin–Lokoja Road, calling it a critical infrastructure for the state. In response, the Minister’s delegation announced Federal Government approval for a flyover at Oko Olowo, a busy corridor that has recorded several fatal accidents.

AbdulRazaq further drew attention to the Share–Patigi Road and Moro Bridge projects, describing them as priority areas for the state.

> “This road opens up agrarian communities and eases the movement of goods and services. Even at 45% completion, traffic has already picked up,” the Governor said.
“Investors are coming in. Olam International is about to commission a $25 million soybean processing plant down this road. This is a catalyst for development.”

Umahi praised AbdulRazaq’s support for President Bola Tinubu and said the Ministry would consider the highlighted projects in the 2026 budget. He also confirmed that the Ministry will be in Kwara next month for work on the state’s stretch of the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway.

Commissioner for Works Abdulquawiy Olododo described the Ojoku–Ilemona road as “a new corridor of growth” that will transform mobility, trade, healthcare, education, and agricultural distribution in the axis.

Traditional rulers — including the Elerin of Erin-Ile and the Olojoku of Ojoku — commended the Governor’s infrastructure push, saying the road would speed up development and ease movement. The Olojoku conferred on the Governor the chieftaincy title of Aare Bobaselu Ojoku.

Development stakeholders such as Johnson Bamidele Adewumi and APC chieftain Raheem Adedoyin also praised AbdulRazaq for his legacy projects in Kwara South, noting that the new road will drastically cut travel time and boost market access for agricultural produce.
