A 37-year-old woman, Akanji Kofoworola, has been arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly publishing fake news, obscene materials, and defamatory content against Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Chief (Mrs.) Lizzy Anjorin.

Kofoworola was brought before Magistrate Wahab Balogun by operatives of the Zone Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fake news publication, and defamation.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Haruna Ibrahim, the defendant and other bloggers now at large committed the offences in Lagos between 2023 and 2025. Ibrahim stated that the alleged acts contravened Sections 39, 57, and 150 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and are punishable under the same laws.

One of the charges reads “That you, Akanji Kofoworola ‘F’, and other bloggers at large, from 2023 till date, in Lagos State, did unlawfully publish statements and rumours about Chief (Mrs.) Lizzy Anjorin on Facebook, knowing or having reason to believe such statements to be false, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 39 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

Another count accused Kofoworola of using Facebook to display images of Anjorin “in a manner likely to provoke disaffection,” while the third alleged that she distributed “obscene content likely to corrupt the minds of viewers towards the personality of Chief (Mrs.) Lizzy Anjorin.”

Kofoworola pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The prosecutor asked the court to remand her pending trial, but her lawyer applied orally for bail, arguing that the offences were bailable.

Magistrate Balogun granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and other conditions. The matter was adjourned to August 21 for trial.
