A 37-year-old woman, Linda Stephen, has petitioned a Kaduna Customary Court for divorce, citing her husband’s excessive sexual demands and alleged physical abuse.
Linda, a resident of Ungwan Sunday in Kaduna, told the court that her husband, Felix Stephen, frequently forces her into prolonged sexual encounters, ignoring her pleas to stop. She also accused him of beating her whenever she refused his advances. The couple has been married for six years and has two children.
“I can’t stand his excessive sexual urges. He wants sex too much, and I can’t bear it anymore,” she told the court. “Most times, he forces himself on me from midnight until the early hours of the morning. Even when I cry, he refuses to stop.”
Linda revealed that she moved out of their home three months ago. Despite pressure from her husband’s relatives to return, she insists she can no longer endure the situation.
Felix, in his defense, admitted to loving his wife and pleaded with the court not to dissolve their marriage. He claimed he was willing to change and had made efforts to reconcile, including seeking mediation from family members.
“I took my uncles and friends to her parents’ house to beg her, but she refused to listen and walked out on us,” he said.
Presiding Judge John Dauda adjourned the case until May 6, urging both parties to maintain peace while efforts for reconciliation continue.
