The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that the Administrative Department of its Academy will be named in honor of slain officer Aminu Salisu, who was killed by a suspected internet fraudster in Anambra.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede made the announcement on Saturday in Abuja during the 2024 EFCC Rewards and Recognition ceremony.
Salisu, an Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, was shot dead while on official duty by suspected internet fraudster Joshua Ikechukwu on January 17.
Olukoyede also vowed that justice would be served and that Salisu’s killer would face the full extent of the law.
He emphasized that the commission would do everything in its power to ensure that the sacrifices made by officers who lose their lives in the line of duty are honored.
The EFCC chairman also assured that the families of fallen officers would not be forgotten.
“We will not relent in our fight against financial crimes in Nigeria,” he stated.
“I want to assure you that for every officer who has lost their life or been fatally injured in the line of duty, we will not forget them.”
In honor of Salisu, Olukoyede announced that the EFCC Academy’s administrative building in Karu, Abuja, would be named after the fallen officer.
He also shared plans to propose that all officers who have lost their lives or sustained fatal injuries in service be recognized and honored.
“Those who have been injured, we will not leave them behind,” he said. “We will continue to support them and their families.”
The EFCC chairman also commended staff members who received various awards, urging them to remain committed to the fight against financial crimes.
“Today is one of the most defining moments in the history of our agency. We are here to honor officers who have performed exceptionally well over the past year,” Olukoyede said.
“We are proud of your commitment to the core values of the EFCC: professionalism, courage, and integrity. Your collective efforts have ensured that the commission remains Nigeria’s most effective anti-corruption agency.”
He also highlighted the commission’s achievements, stating, “In 2024, we broke new ground in terms of records and convictions. This year, we can look back and recall that the EFCC made history with the single largest property confiscation and the single largest arrests in a single operation in Nigeria.”
